The largest photography festival in Southeast Europe, which has been held every year in Rovinj since 2008. The year-long project is closely connected with the Ministry of Culture, numerous cultural institutions and institutions, and with several selected key sponsors. The project is of special cultural social responsibility. Until March 31, 2900 photos by authors from 16 countries of the world were submitted to this year’s Rovinj Photodays competition. The number of applications was led by photographers from the region, but applications also came from Iraq, Ireland, Korea, the USA, Spain… This year’s finalists included six authors from Croatia, five authors from Serbia, two authors from Slovenia and one author each. from Iraq, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and Slovakia. Due to the epidemiological situation in the country and the world, this year’s Rovinj Photodays festival did not take place as planned. However, despite the change in plans, the exhibition of the finalists is available to everyone on the festival’s website , and this year’s Grand Prix has also been announced! ” In this pandemic year of 2021, a significant number of photographers applied for the Photodays contest, and among them the younger generation stands out this time as well. The quality of the applications varies especially among them, but the jury had more than enough works in front of them that jumped out, so sometimes it was not easy to make a decision. With many applications, it can be noticed that the authors in one way or another thematize the current time, and not only in the category of documentary photography, which the jury considered with special attention Likewise, special attention is paid to quality photographic series from the region that deal with topics specific to that climate. At the same time, in the category of landscapes, there is a special emphasis on the city landscape, i.e. “cityscape”, among which we have selected two excellent series. In the categories of nudes and portraits, where time and space are more difficult to come to the fore, we were primarily looking for originality and contemporary approaches. There were a lot of works in the shortlist that met that criterion, and among them a series that exceeded those criteria to such an extent that we decided to award it the highest award.” – said the president of the jury, Dejan Sluga.
