Exhibition Josip Restek, renowned Croatian academic painters, graphic artists, illustrators, restorers, painters of sacred art and pedagogues , whose works found an enviable place in the Croatian as well as a much wider, European and universal cultural heritage! Josip Restek (1915-1987) supplemented his graphic and fine art education with numerous study stays in European cities, pulsating centers of fine and graphic expression, where his fascination with European abstraction and enformel was born, which shaped his fine, and especially graphic, expression and brought him numerous domestic and international recognitions and awards. Josip Restek died in Zagreb on May 13, 1987. leaving over 2300 valuable works of art. The largest collection of his artworks, as many as 410 drawings, watercolors, independent graphic sheets, graphic maps and oils, is permanently stored in the Klovićevi dvori Gallery in Zagreb! “Josip Restek’s creativity is determined by the time frame but also by the geographical context in which he was born, where he lived and worked. His art is a reflection of lived experience, impressions caused by direct observation of nature, situations, objects. He records what he saw and experienced in a distinctive way, creating a special and recognizable visual expression.” Vilma Bartolić, curator of the exhibition In the Zvonimir gallery will be exposed twenty pictures and graphics from the author’s family legacy, which includes hundreds of works and is only a small reminder of Restek’s presence in Croatian recent modern art. Works from different phases of creativity were selected, and the exposed pictures of marine motifs, created during the artist’s stay in Baška, have an important emotional place in his work.
Josip Restek spent a significant part of his time in Baška, where he had a summer house and studio and used the Baška landscape as inspiration for his works. The exhibition works are part of the private collection of Mrs. Ivana Đurinović-Wolf, niece of Josip Restek.
