21:00 Kortil Gallery, David Bowie photo exhibition by Brian Rašić
Author: Brian Rašić Curator: Jolanda Todorović, Kortil gallery Production: Livingstone Association/RovinjPhotodays 2016. This exhibition is a multimedia story about David Bowie through the lens of a master of photography, a fan of rock’n’roll, a man who hung out with David Bowie on camera for more than two years decades, more precisely from 1983 to 2005. The role of the photographer in visual communication with one of the world’s greatest musical performers has a strong potential in unraveling the enigma of a very complex personality called David Bowie… Brian Rašić If there was a term ‘music photographer’, Brian would certainly be the prototype of it. He has been living and working in London for more than three decades, but also around the world. In the archive, he has photos that in many ways represent a ‘little history of music’. From Muddy Watters and Chuck Berry, the founders of r’n’r, through more or less all the leading bands of popular music as well as solo artists, all the way to Frank Sinatra. He has been photographing Rolling Stones concerts since the early 80s. David Bowie personally hired him for his last performances, and David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) for the promotion and concerts of the album “On The Island”. The exhibition contains 48 combined prints laminated and framed in B1 and B2 formats. From the foreword of the exhibition: “… Rock’n’roll music was a channel of subversion, nowhere near as accessible and ubiquitous as it is today. Bowie captured the frequency of personal motives: “I wanted to be a musician because it looked rebellious, it was subversive and I felt that way they can cause change”. This course was characterized by constant change and the rule that the rules were broken and the boundaries expanded. In search of his own identity, he created a series of theatrical characters, and changed his image roles he took to the stage, finding in them his own alter ego. He was Zigy Stardust, an android alien, a being of intersexual traits… always a showman ranging from psychedelic madness to a guest on the Bing Crosby Christmas show… And so on until the beginning of the eighties.I feel better when I ask myself the question less Who was I?“he spoke.”
21:30 HKD atrium: Tribute to David Bowie live performances Farewell my Hero
In addition to the welcome drink, which will also be thematically current in the atrium of the HKD, produced by Cukarikafe, the organizer’s goal is for each visitor to revive the memory of this exceptional musician through a diverse program. The conversation with Brian Rašić will be led by Ivica Vrkić, and they will be joined by the excellent Rijeka rock publicist Velid Đekić. Interaction with the audience is welcome and will certainly not be missed. We follow Bowie through multimedia, both through a projection with a biographical chronology of his activities, and with the choreography of the Flame dance group on selected musical themes. Along with the surprise DJ, musicians from Rijeka will give their views on certain hits and parts of David Bowie’s work with their free and unpretentious interpretations. Luka Ćapeta, Frano Živković and the duo Livingstones will perform on the night of memory of David Bowie. We invite all lovers of good music and photography to join us at HKD on Saturday, May 21, from 9 p.m. and bring/take away an unforgettable memory of this great musician.
