For the sixth year in a row, the attractive exhibition of the “Friends of the Sea” project is touring the squares and waterfronts of the Croatian Adriatic. During the summer of 2015, over a million visitors will see the exhibition in 13 Croatian destinations. EXHIBITION 2015 – “Friends of the Sea: Nineteen Hundred and Some” The exhibition from the cycle “Friends of the Sea” during the summer of 2015 presents a documentary collection of photographs created at the beginning of the last century with the theme of life in the Croatian Adriatic in 62 large formats. The works were selected by the expert team of the “Rovinj-Photodays” festival, and they were collected from the funds of national museums: the Maritime and Historical Museum of the Croatian Littoral, the Lošinj Museum, the Zadar National Museum, the Museum of the City of Šibenik, the Museum of the City of Split, and private collections: Smokvina, Budičin, Franolić , Seferović, Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage Koprivnik Nesseltal. The goal of this exhibition is to show domestic and foreign visitors our photographic heritage, to document life on the Croatian Adriatic at the beginning of the 20th century, and to briefly return to the world of our great-grandfathers. About the “Friends of the Sea” project In 2009, the Livingstone Association of Rijeka and the Astoria company designed the national cultural-tourism campaign “Friends of the Sea”. The goal is to draw the attention of the Croatian public and all visitors to the role of photography in media culture and the social responsibility and ongoing value of promoting the ecology and preservation of the Adriatic Sea with large-format outdoor photo exhibitions in 14 Croatian cities (May – September). After the trilogy with the themes of undersea, sea surface and Mediterranean essays and Giants of Croatian photography of the 50s, Black and White of the 60s, the sixth year continues with the presentation of valuable material from the archives of maritime and historical museums, cities and counties. In cooperation with the tourism associations of the cities, the exhibition will be hosted by: Rovinj, Pula, Krk, Mali Lošinj, Baška, Rab, Zadar, Biograd na Moru, Šibenik, Split, Malinska, Rijeka and Zagreb. Support of host cities and tourist communities of cities The Livingstone Association is a specialized association for the promotion of national cultural values. Since the activities of the Livingstone association have been well known to the Croatian public for several years (Livingstone magazine, the educational comic strip “Strip at School”, the photography festival “RovinjPhotodays”), support for this project was not absent. We would like to thank all the partners in the project who helped us to successfully realize it: the Croatian Tourist Board, all the host cities, the tourist boards of the cities, partner companies who, despite the recession, stayed with us this year.
